Tools to Help Combat Depression
Talking to Someone
Talk to someone about what is making us feel upset, (parent, teacher, school counselor or another adult you trust) – they can help
Getting Active
Get up and active - even if you don’t feel like it. Doing things we like, or being around others, helps our brain to feel happy again. Exercise, fresh air, creativity and comfort might help.
Sticking to a Routine
Stick to normal routines – get up and shower, plan something for the day, and stick to your usual bedtime.
Mindfulness & Journaling
Be kind to yourself, and notice when others are kind to you.
Write down your thoughts and feelings. Share with someone you trust, if you are able to. It can feel better when it is out of our head.
Spending Time With Family & Loved Ones
Ask someone to spend time with you if you are feeling really down – even if you don’t talk about what is bothering you.
